How Fin Cabinetry & Furniture Streamlined Production and Saved Thousands with RiseClean Labels

Like any woodworking company, at Fin Cabinetry & Furniture, efficient workflow is critical for success and continued growth. As a custom shop handling everything from veneers to laminates, even small process improvements can make a big impact in their bottom line. One of the biggest time-wasters they struggled with previously? Label removal—until they switched to RiseClean.

The Hidden Cost of Label Removal

“All of our remnant pieces get labeled off of our CNC,” Dirk shared, “so we had a good variety of materials (unfinished veneers, UV ply, laminates, melamine) that all had labels that had been on them for a while. We simply pulled a few pieces of each type of material and timed the shop guys trying to completely remove the labels.”

What they found was that their current solution— “easy peel” labels from an online company—wasn’t living up to its name.

“We had been using (another company’s) ‘easy peel’ labels, but they would never come off in one piece. This would require the guys to pick at them for a really long time, use a putty knife to scrape them off, use thinner to remove the adhesive, and sand the pieces to remove any signs of the labels. Sometimes this would take up to 2 minutes +.”

They did the math and realized that label removal was costing them far more than they could’ve imagined.

“Our average shop pay is about $30/hour so we figured it was costing us about $1 to remove every label. The projects that we do are pretty large so there are hundreds of labels per job.”

Immediate ROI and Improved Workflow

After switching to RiseClean, the benefits were immediate for Fin Cabinetry.

“These labels paid for themselves on our first project. Not only are we not paying the guys all that time to remove labels, but it has made our process much more efficient. We have gained the time of removing labels back and our CNC operator is not having to take the time to try and flip pieces over and put labels on the back of the parts.”

Beyond labor savings, they also saw a reduction in product damage.

“We are also not risking damaging our product anymore by scratching, over-sanding or discoloring them with thinners trying to remove our old labels.”

Surviving the Texas Heat

The RiseClean labels not only performed, but outperformed expectations.

“There is one other test we did when we first received your labels. I was told to never use direct transfer labels down here in Texas. I was told horror stories about jobs being shipped in a box truck and showing up to a job site with blacked out labels from the heat. Or leaving cabinet too close to an open door and blacking out when the sun hit them.”

Now, we DO recommend storing your labels in a temperature controlled environment; however, Dirk found that the RiseClean labels withstood the Texas heat regardless.

“When the labels came in I went out to one of the shipping containers we have for overflow. When it’s 90 degrees outside it’s probably about 120 in the container and the steel walls feel even hotter. I slapped a label we had printed on the wall that faced the sun. Brad had assured me they wouldn’t discolor from the heat. I completely forgot I put it out there until I saw your email today. I went and checked it this afternoon and it still looks as good as it did when I stuck it on there about a month ago.”

The Final Word
